Screening Criteria
A reservoir can be screened quickly to determine if it is a candidate for further study for
polymer flooding. This table shows a range of some
of the basic reservoir and fluid properties that
are good for polymer flooding.
Range of conditions
| Properties | Standard |
| Oil Viscosity | From 10 to 200 cp |
| Temperature | up to 120°C |
| Permeability | 50 md to 10 Darcy |
| Reservoirs | standstone (best) carbonate (OK) |
| Oil gravity | >15 APl |
| Mobility ratio | 2+ |
| Oil saturation | >50% |
| Water injectvity | Good |
Important steps to implement a polymer flood
1. Preliminary background Information
SNF engineers can screen a reservoir and develop a preliminary plan based on data submitted to us in the following form. This data form can be downloaded here.

- Screening Form
2. Reservoir and laboratory studies
Based on the results of a reservoir study made by the operator, several tests will be run in the
SNF oil field laboratory to find the optimum polymer for the reservoir.
3. Field scale pilot
A pilot unit can set up in order to test the polymer ensure its efficiency in the oil reservoir.
4. Field Expansion
Field wide expansion follows a successful pilot project.
